An on-site review of the hospital is conducted by a team of reviewers experienced in the field of trauma. The level of verification is requested by the hospital. There are five separate categories of verification in the ACS's program (Level I Trauma Center, Level II Trauma Center, Level III Trauma Center, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center), each with specific criteria that must be met by a facility seeking that level of verification. It’s all part of our mission to help injured children get back to the business of being kids as quickly as possible.” “Children’s Colorado is the Rocky Mountain region's only Level 1 Regional Pediatric Trauma Center. The broad scope of our pediatric trauma program begins with prevention and includes pre-hospital care, emergency, diagnostic, surgical, acute and rehabilitation, as well as research, education and advocacy. “There is no better place for a critically ill or injured child than a pediatric trauma center,” said Steven Moulton, MD, director of the Trauma and Burn Programs at Children's Colorado. Our mission is to get injured children back to the business of being kids The state of Colorado re-designated Children’s Colorado as a Level 1 Trauma Center at the July 12 Statewide Emergency Medical and Trauma Services Advisory Committee (SEMTAC) meeting. The actual establishment and the designation of trauma centers is the function of local, regional or state healthcare systems agencies, such as the local emergency medical services (EMS) authority. The ACS does not designate trauma centers. The ACS Committee on Trauma's verification program provides confirmation that a trauma center has demonstrated its commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for all injured patients. Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria to ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the ACS. This spectrum of care encompasses the pre-hospital phase through the rehabilitation process. The American College of Surgeons Consultation/Verification Program for hospitals promotes the development of trauma centers across the country, by defining the hospital resources that are necessary to provide optimal trauma care for all injured patients. Ensuring patients receive optimal trauma care This achievement recognizes the trauma center's dedication to providing the highest level of complex care for injured children, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Trauma Center at Children’s Colorado was recently re-verified as a Level 1 Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee (VRC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
